These monthly meetings are held at KindTreeKids (located at 3191 Burgundy Road, Decatur 30033) where mindfulness meets social thinking.

We learn best when it’s fun and that’s what we want for your children, too!

OUR FALL THEME:

This season’s overarching theme is A SPOT OF SOCIAL THINKING. Social Thinking is essentially social information processing; how to attend, interpret, problem solve and respond in any situation—the thinking and doing skills that will aid us in becoming more connected and thus, successful in social situations and experiences throughout our lives. Our aim for this season is to help motivate social and emotional learning through exposure, education, and (the most important part) practicing skills. Our program reminds, validates, and nurtures the idea that we all have emotions and all emotions are just right. Beyond the emotion is the way we respond to them which is what often requires faciliation and compassionate guidance to get through sticky experiences and sensations safely to the other side. This season will incorporate the "Spot of...." books by the amazing Diane Alber to help illustrate and emphasize important concepts like growth mindset, size of the problem, frustration, our worries, generosity, and patience.

MORE ABOUT OUR TOPICS:

  • AUGUST 24/25 - POSTIVE THINKING. August brings so much change as we start off with new school year, new schedules, new friends, and new challenges! It can be hard to transition back to these new experiences with ease. This session will discuss ways to balance all the thoughts that we have and tools to approach uncomfortable experiences with a positive thinking mindset.

  • SEPTEMBER 21/22 - SELF-CONTROL. How do we "BE MAD" when we "feel mad"? Getting frustrated is really okay. It's helpful for us to remember that it's okay to respond to our feelings when they match the size of of the problem. There are also many things in our lives that are out of our control. Our activity helps children learn how to identify what we are in control of and respond to the size of the problem appropriately. Your child will build a tool that helps them manage their frustrations in a healthy way by FLIPPING their frustration into a calm, and in control space.

  • OCTOBER 12/13 - WORRY. We have useful worries and we have "spinning" worries. We have to ask, "do I need this worry?". If we don't do anything about "spinning worries" they can keep multiplying and turn into a BIG ANXIETY SPOT and that doesn't make us feel very good. This session will help us recognize spinning worries and learn tools that help us make it go away quickly.

  • NOVEMBER 9/10 - (FALL HIKE) PATIENCE. This session is held at a different location. Waiting and patience are very hard skills that require us to practice sitting with discomfort. We will learn ways to build our patience "spot" as big as possible. Children are encouraged to practice and train in patience every day. We explore the possibility of ways to make waiting fun. We also further discover how waiting can benefit us in other ways such as delayed gratification and impulse control. Being in nature can often bring stillness to our nervous systems and hiking can offer regulation opportunities. Both of which provide a great opportunity for our bodies to practice some waiting games on this fun outing!

  • DECEMBER 14/15 - GENEROSITY. Learning about generosity can start when children are young. For this program, I use a portion of proceeds from your registration to build a care package or project for those in need. From hygiene kits to food prep to holiday cards for those in assisted care, our KindTreeKids will personally experience a project that illustrates generosity and giving. When they do thoughtful things for others, it helps them see a world beyond themselves. It also sets them on a path to make a difference in others' lives.

These groups are limited in size and they fill up VERY quickly so please take this into consideration when you register!
***Cancellations must be done at least 7 DAYS prior to the August session for you to move the deposit to another program. The cancellation policy is outlined in further detail on the registration page. By registering for this program, you agree to these terms. Thank you for your understanding!
