TINY KindTreeKids Social Play Days! Ages 3-5
-play-based learning social skills groups-

KindTreeKids with Communication Interventions is excited to open up our programs to TINYS!! These programs will offer a foundation of what KindTreeKids is all about. This will be a platform for them as they age into learning the basics of social skills while building peer engagement and successful play skills.

Play is where a tremendous amount of learning about oneself, thinking about others, following directions, and language (social and emotional) skills can flourish.  We all know that learning social skills is a key part of child development. Successful social skills allow kids to interact positively with others and communicate their needs, wants, and feelings effectively. Plus, the benefits of robust social skills reach far beyond social relationships and acceptance. We know that it can help amplify other areas like confidence, resilience, gratitude, empathy, and compassion. We also know that it’s essential to start teaching these skills early.  Our sessions will send children home regulated, confident, and with the social skills seeds planted for later carryover and practice.  Each session will include an email home that covers the content covered (book links, the vocabulary used, recommendations to do at home, and pictures!)  That’s where you come in by taking that information and using it in all settings and experiences so the material can be truly learned and integrated into everyday challenges. This doesn’t all happen in our groups where all problems get solved, but we do promise to plant all the important seeds!

DATES:
Sunday, Jan 26
Sunday, Feb 23
Sunday, March 30
*Saturday, April 19
**Saturday, May 10 - different location/hike

TOPICS:

January 26 - Join In & Play
Making friends and playing with others is fun, but it’s not always easy! In this session, we’ll talk about how to join in, take turns, play fair, and be a good sport. We’ll also discuss cooperation, getting along with others, making friends, and being a good friend. This is a great way to kick off the season ahead, filled with plenty of opportunities to join in, play, and build friendships!

February 23 - Share & Take Turns
This group will demonstrate how fun and easy sharing can be! We’ll discuss how sharing makes both us and others feel good. We’ll also practice the different ways sharing can happen. Additionally, we’ll learn how to express ourselves and problem-solve when we don't want to share, or when others don't want to share with us!

March 30 - But Why Can’t I?
In this session, we will read a story about why certain "rules" exist to make our lives safer and easier. We will encourage children to understand that sometimes we can't do certain things because it helps keep us safe. It also helps us consider how our words and actions impact others in different settings.

April 19* - But What If…?
(*Please note this session meets on a Saturday.) This discussion will explore some of the typical worries that children may experience. It will also highlight that different things worry different people, and not everyone has the same concerns. We will build awareness of our own needs, views, and feelings, as well as how to be sensitive to the needs, views, and feelings of others.

May 10* - (SPRING HIKE) The Listening Walk
(*Please note this session meets on a Saturday and at a different location.) KindTreeKids hikes are the VERY best! In our final session, we will explore the beauty of being in nature and open our ears to the sounds around us. This easy and scenic hike offers us the opportunity to tune in and connect with the natural world. It will be a wonderful way to end our season, as we slow our bodies and minds down and reflect on all we have learned.
